Guests slam rooms “riddled” with bed bugs at Hotel Rosamar, Benidorm
Guests staying at the Hotel Rosamar in Benidorm have suggested that disrepair and inadequate cleaning are major problems, with separate accounts of rooms infested with bed bugs posted online.
Jet2 and TUI operate package holidays to the 364-room hotel, with TUI proclaiming that “Thanks to a recent revamp, the Hotel Rosamar feels nice and modern”. Much of the feedback from recent guests, however, bemoans dilapidated fittings and facilities, with one TripAdvisor reviewer describing the hotel as “falling apart.”
“We were all covered in bites within 48hrs”
Holidaymakers visiting the Hotel Rosamar have taken to the review site to alert others to infestations of bed bugs:
“The biggest issue was the BED BUGGS (sic), we were all covered in bites within 48hrs and when we looked at the mattress they were crawling with them.We Complained to reception who told us they would sort it out and it took 24 hours to move us rooms. Our new rooms, we noticed the mattresses were all damp and smelt like the had been soaked in some sort of insect spray, so they know about this issue.” – OliverMac76
“We woke up in the 2nd day and we all had bites or marks on our skin and first assumed it was mossies. How wrong were we, after further inspection, we found the beds (all of them!!!!) we riddled with bed bugs, you could see them clear as day when I looked with the aid of my torch on my phone.” – Margaret W
Signs of bed bug infestation can include small bugs or white eggs around the joints of mattresses or furniture, small black spots on mattresses and bites. Bed bugs tend to come out at night and bite exposed skin. It is important that they are kept under control as they can easily be transported through luggage, furniture and clothing.

Holiday Claims Bureau director and solicitor Michael Walker has the following advice for package holiday customers whose holiday has been affected by bedbugs.
“Bed bug bites are unpleasant and can become infected. Having these creatures in your hotel room is of course unexpected and their presence alone can be distressing for the party.
It’s important to get photographic evidence of any infestation; it’s also helpful to get details of anyone else affected. Bed bugs can be brought in by other visitors, for example in luggage and they are not attracted by dirt. However, the hotel should be on the lookout for them and when they are identified, take appropriate steps to de-infest affected rooms.
In pursuing a claim, if the Tour Operator is to be held responsible, it will be important to establish that they failed to properly treat or manage an infestation. As with any package holiday claim, make sure your concerns and any illness / infection are reported, and that you obtain a copy of the formal report. Try to write down everything that happened with details of everyone you spoke to. Recording how events unfolded and who was involved can be helpful in evidencing a potential claim.”
