Latest on alleged sickness and reports of food hygiene issues Suite Princess, Gran Canaria
Winter sun-seekers at the Suite Princess hotel on the holiday island of Gran Canaria have publicly complained about poor food hygiene, with one travelling party claiming that most of their group were made ill by something they ate.
Posting a review on TripAdvisor, December guest Vanligaresor says that most of the food served “was not warm even if it should have been” and that cleanliness in the dining areas was unsatisfactory:
“We needed to check if the plates were properly washed before we took food. Most of us got food poisoning during the last days, something might had happened in the kitchen even though the management denied any problem. It definitely lowers the overall impression.”
TUI’s all-inclusive package at the Suite Princess is part of their ‘Platinum’ range. The hotel underwent refurbishment in 2017, and is due to be revamped again as a Sensimar hotel in late 2019. The vast majority of TripAdvisor reviews of stays are either excellent or very good, but a significant number of recent posts are less complimentary.
Site contributor Beeshamill from Baston in the UK says of a January stay:
“Booked this hotel thinking it would be second to none being a Platinum. How wrong was I…food was always lukewarm even if you went in for breakfast at 8 when it opened.”
A failure to maintain food temperatures crops up more than once in reviews, with Maureen Q from Bournemouth claiming that “hygiene standards have dropped” with the food being “at best, lukewarm, but mostly cold.”
Kevinland2016 from St Austell says he witnessed an altercation about food hygiene:
“At every sitting the food temperature was below the food/hygiene recommended temperatures. At one point a guest asked the head waiter to test the food temperature on the hot plate. The waiter obtained a probe and placed it on the plate and not in the food trays. The guest became irate and made him place it in the food. It measured 50 deg, the recommended temperature is a minimum of 70 deg. How there hasn’t been a major case of food poisoning is beyond me.”
