Sickness strikes again at RIU Cabo Verde, Cape Verde
For the 4th year in a row, our team of holiday illness solicitors are being contacted by, and actively representing British holidaymakers, who have fallen victim to poor food and hygiene, with two clients recently being diagnosed with Shigella at the all-inclusive RIU Cabo Verde resort in Sal.
Clients are reporting food stations infested with swarms of flies, and have supplied photographs of refrigerators containing food at 21.6 degrees.
Michael Walker, Partner at Holiday Claims Bureau said: “An alarming number of cases have been reported, particularly from holidaymakers who stayed at the RIU Cabo Verde resort in Cape Verde in July this Summer, due to a repeat pattern of health and safety failings which we’ve been made aware of in recent years.
The official guidance for storing food in refrigerators needs to be between 0-5 degree. Anything over eight degrees means harmful bacteria can grow rapidly on food, and is commonly referred to as the ‘danger zone’ for microbial growth.
Food which is undercooked as well as being left open to the elements, particularly flies, are prone to causing widespread outbreaks of illness that can and should be prevented”.
We urge anyone who has recently stayed at the RIU Cabo Verde and experiencing illness to contact us directly, to receive free legal advice and help to pursue a claim for holiday illness compensation.
RIU Cabo Verde Shigella Compensation Success
In December 2021, a former client, Jake (31) lost 11kg in weight from the start of his holiday after contracting Shigella, an intestinal infection contracted by consuming food or water contaminated by the bacteria. After suffering from the same symptoms, clients are reporting; sickness, diarrhoea, fever and stomach cramps. Thankfully, Jake made a full recovery and received £3,000 compensation with the help of Holiday Claims Bureau.
