British holidaymakers are reporting on an outbreak of Cyclospora following a stay at the Mexican hotel in June 2018.
The party voiced their concerns on TripAdvisor, asserting that a fellow holidaymaker had received distressing confirmation of a parasite through a stool sample. The affected individual seemed to be in a dire state, potentially burdened with a substantial medical bill to salvage their homeward journey.
Notably, the Riviera Maya region of Mexico had witnessed cyclospora parasite outbreaks, with indications suggesting the persistence of holiday sickness cases related to this pathogen.
Accusations extended to the hotel’s food hygiene practices, citing instances such as “cold offerings in the buffet restaurant” and the watering down of alcoholic beverages. Additional reviews echoed these sentiments, with one holidaymaker noting, “at lunch and dinner, we encountered an odd assortment of cold food.”
