Family alleges food poisoning as guests describe “shockingly horrible” food at Paradisus Punta Cana Resort
A family visiting the 5-star Paradisus Punta Cana hotel in the Dominican Republic in December say that “several family members” experienced food poisoning and poor hygiene practices.
The holidaymaker, posting on TripAdvisor as Eli92005, also says that “…food was not fresh and probably recycled with poor infectious control.”
Situated on the Easternmost tip of Dominican Republic, the hotel boasts 11 restaurants including a la carte as well as self-service dining options. A number of reviews following late 2018 have claimed that some of the food on offer is not up to standard. A December guest from Michigan describes a “shockingly horrible experience”:
“You could not pay me to eat that buffet food. The 3 of us lost weight on this trip and spent most of the meal hour trying to figure out what we could stomach…food is cold, undercooked, runny and unappetizing.. It’s as if they literally don’t care.”
Tour Operators have a responsibility to take steps so that the food element of the package holidays they sell does not put consumers at risk of falling ill as a result of eating the all-inclusive fare. They should ensure that hotels are properly implementing systems for food preparation, display and storage; this includes monitoring temperatures to prevent contamination. Where holidaymakers become ill as a result of eating the food provided, then they should be fairly compensated for the pain and suffering they endure, as well as any other losses and expenses they incur.
