Guest claims he got Salmonella at 4.5 star Breathless Punta Cana amid reviewers’ food concerns
A guest staying at the Breathless Punta Cana, Dominican Republic in November has claimed that he was diagnosed with a salmonella infection after becoming unwell at the end of his holiday.
Posting a review on TripAdvisor, Hans82115 says:
“I did get sick early in the morning on our last day. I wasn’t overly concerned other than it was going to be a long flight home, and it was. Unfortunately after being home for 2 days I ended up in the hospital with a severe salmonella infection. Based on the timing and that we never left the resort this could only have come from Breathless.”
TUI offer all-inclusive package holidays at the resort with a 5-star rating. 87% of reviews posted on TripAdvisor historically are either ‘excellent’ or ‘very good’, but Holiday Claims Bureau are concerned to note other instances of alleged food poisoning and poor food hygiene in reviews posted following visits in December 2018:
“this trip was far from the relaxing, enjoyable 5 days we were expecting. 4/6 of our party got very sick while there…stomach cramps, vomiting, diarrhea.” NewYorkRN
“Food poisoning nightmare. Getting ready to leave this place tomorrow…4 out of the 6 of us got FOOD POISONING…may the odds be ever in your favor …Hot / cold food not maintained – discerningtraveler15, Arkansas
“The food was not good and several of the restaurants were closed for the duration of our stay…We were served the wrong drinks and drinks in dirty glasses. The majority of people in our group got stomach sick.” – danielledijoy
It is only right that Tour Operators take steps to ensure that basic food hygiene procedures are followed at hotel complexes such as Breathless Punta Cana, so that their customers are not put at risk of consuming contaminated food. If members of your party have fallen sick as a result of poor hygiene, Holiday Claims Bureau can call upon years of experience in helping UK Holidaymakers recover fair compensation for holidays that have been wrecked.
In the event that your holiday is disrupted by the severe discomfort and debilitating symptoms of a gastric illness caused by food taken at the hotel, there are steps that you should take to maximise your chances of successfully recovering compensation for your losses. These include:
- Seeking appropriate medical treatment
- Reporting both your illness and any hygiene concerns to the Tour Representative or directly to the Tour Operator
- Noting your observations on specific dishes you have eaten, taking photographs where there are visible problems
- Keeping in touch with others at the hotel who have been affected by similar illness
- Seeking independent legal advice.
