Holiday Claims Bureau secure compensation for clients who suffered Shigella
The Holiday Claims Bureau represented nine clients who went on an all-inclusive holiday with TUI to stay at RIU Touareg in Cape Verde. During their holiday, they all suffered illness with symptoms of stomach cramps, diarrhoea, nausea, and loss of appetite. Holiday Claims Bureau instructed
Holiday Claims Bureau’s clients instructed us to make a claim for compensation against TUI after making an enquiry through our website. The Holiday Claims Bureau have significant experience in representing large groups of holidaymakers who suffer food poisoning at hotels on holiday.
TUI initially denied responsibility for our client’s illness. The team at the Holiday Claims Bureau obtained all the relevant disclosure from the hotel and obtained the necessary evidence to support our client’s cases by way of medical and microbiological evidence.
Shigella diagnosis
The Holiday Claims Bureau instructed a microbiologist to provide evidence regarding the diagnosis and cause of shigella.
Shigella is most commonly transmitted via exposure to contaminated food. Hotels should regularly check the temperatures of the food being served as well as follow hygienic protocols to ensure that food is not contaminated. Unfortunately, the hotel failed to follow basic hygiene procedures during our client’s holiday.
Settlement
Following negotiations, the legal team at Holiday Claims Bureau were able to secure settlements ranging from £2,000 to £10,000 for each of our nine clients.
Michael Walker, Partner representing the holidaymakers said, “our client’s holidays were impacted and each of them suffered an awful illness that could have been avoided had simple hygiene checks been put in place and followed by hotel staff. Unfortunately, this was not done, and as a result, our client’s holidays were ruined.”
