Client Receives £10,000 compensation following Cryptosporidium diagnosis after their stay in Turkey
Holiday Claims Bureau’s clients all booked an all-inclusive holiday with Jet2 Holidays to stay at Titanic Deluxe Golf Belek in Turkey in August 2018.
How a Diagnosis Was Reached
During their holiday, our clients all suffered illness with symptoms of vomiting, severe diarrhoea and weight loss. Following their return to the UK, all three clients provided a stool sample to their GP and were diagnosed as having contracted cryptosporidium on holiday. This included a two-year-old child who continues to suffer with an ongoing intolerance to dairy products as a result of the illness.
Holiday Claims Bureau are instructed
Our clients instructed the Holiday Claims Bureau to make a cryptosporidium holiday illness claim for compensation against Jet2 Holidays after making an enquiry through our website.
Jet2 holidays initially denied responsibility for our client’s illness. The team at the Holiday Claims Bureau obtained all the relevant disclosure from the hotel and obtained the necessary evidence to support our client’s cases by way of medical and microbiological evidence. We also liaised with lawyers in Turkey to assist our clients cases. Cryptosporidium diagnosis The Holiday Claims Bureau instructed a microbiologist to provide evidence regarding the diagnosis and cause of cryptosporidium.
Cryptosporidium is most commonly transmitted via exposure to contaminated water, which can include exposure in swimming pools or water parks. Hotels should regularly test the swimming pool water to check it is safe to use. Unfortunately, the hotel failed to carry out these tests at the time of our client’s holiday.
£10,000 compensation settlement
Following negotiations, the legal team at Holiday Claims Bureau were able to secure a settlement of over £10,000 for our client’s. One client said: “The Holiday Claims Bureau team were excellent and went to extreme lengths to help get the evidence we needed to be successful with our claim. We are delighted with the result”. Michael Walker, Partner representing the holiday makers said: “Our clients suffered a horrible illness which has impacted the day to day life of a young child for a long period of time. It is important that hotels and tour operators ensure that they maintain high levels of hygiene to ensure that others are not similarly affected”.
