Hurghada in spotlight again as illness strikes at Jaz Makadi Aquaviva
Holiday Claims Bureau is concerned to hear reports of illness among guests visiting the Jaz Makadi Aquaviva Resort in Hurghada, Egypt in summer 2018.
TUI rate the hotel as ‘5 Star’ in their ‘Platinum’ range. Early in our client’s stay, she was stricken by distressing vomiting and diarrhoea symptoms. On notifying her illness to the Tour Representative, our client was reportedly told this was simply down to ‘Egyptian belly’. A number of hotels in this part of Egypt continue to be the subject of food poisoning complaints from visiting British package holidaymakers.
Your health shouldn’t be compromised on vacation. If food poisoning has cast a shadow over your trip, act now. Contact the Holiday Claims Bureau at 0161 813 2131 or start your claim online right now.
A number of TripAdvisor reviewers suggest that episodes of illness were not isolated to individual guests, despite Tour Representatives suggesting otherwise.
‘Tanya M’, visiting in August 2018, tells of her ordeal with illness and alerting the operator to her concerns:
“We also had several concerns regarding hygiene issues with staff which we have formally raised as a complaint with TUI as some practices in the restaurant are downright dangerous. This could be why we fell so ill during our stay…The TUI rep and hotel management did not seem to take this seriously, saying that they hadn’t had any other reports of illness which was a lie as many other families we spoke to had also been very unwell and reported this to the rep.”
Another guest at the Jaz Makadi Aquaviva in August 2018, ‘Shez UK’, voices similar misgivings:
“…we have never experienced sickness as we did at this hotel. We met so many families suffering with the same illness. So many holidays ruined…Thomson holidays need to re risk assess this hotel in high season when the main restaurant is the mess it was when we were there.”
“Chefs handling raw meat then serving cooked meat”
Contributors to the site have posted reviews over the course of 2018 raising concerns over sickness and the standard of the food systems in place. ‘Lynne S’, who stayed in May 2018, says: “The food was just awful we witnessed on a number of occasions cross contamination with the chefs handling RAW MEAT then serving COOKED MEAT without either cleaning their hands or changing the magic rubber gloves”. She goes on to described the illness that “ruined” her family holiday.
We would urge anyone who has been through a similar experience at the Jaz Makadi Aquaviva resort to get in touch with Holiday Claims Bureau. We assess every claim on its merits and we are not daunted by the noise of media hype about these matters. Where the Tour Operator has a case to answer, British package holidaymakers are justified in pursuing damages and losses in full.
