Food poisoning reported at Dreams Tulum Hotel
The Holiday Claims Bureau team has been made aware of reported instances of holidaymakers contracting known food pathogens at the Dreams Tulum Hotel in Mexico. Major UK tour operators offer all-inclusive package deals at this resort and hotel.
“Standards have dropped dramatically.”
One British visitor has posted a review on TripAdvisor relating to his ordeal:
“It is over 2 weeks since i have been there but yesterday it was confirmed by my doctor that i have contracted Giardiasis whilst on holiday. We stayed here 7th – 14th June 2018 after it was recommended to us by a friend who stayed last year. I read on here that the hotel standards have dropped dramatically in this time due to budget cuts.” The gentleman goes on to describe his dining experiences of both undercooked and overcooked food being served.
Another holidaymaker posting on TripAdvisor alleges:
“I stayed here for 7 nights in June and feel the need to write my first ever review after having a dreadful bout of food poisoning. I spent the last 48 hours of my stay in my room throwing up and sitting on the toilet. I didn’t eat anywhere else so I know it has to be from this hotel. I can’t believe that others on here have also been through the same and there have even been reports of ECOLI…” He relates this to the food he ate at the hotel, remarking that “…the food (apart from being dangerous) was bland, over-cooked and tasteless; at the barefoot grill there were flies on the salad and the cook just looked on and did nothing.”
Another visitor in June reported that their party was stricken by this food pathogen:
“…he tested positive for Ecoli. We only ate at Dreams Tulum so he had to have gotten it from there.”
One reviewer who didn’t fall ill was also compelled to comment on food hygiene standards at the barefoot grill:
“Last, but certainly not least, do not eat at the Barefoot Grill (poolside burgers and hot dogs). The burgers are inconsistently cooked (mine was raw in the middle – cook was trying to rush to get them ready because he was behind and the line was long). I later saw him touch various things (wall, trash can, etc.) then touch burgers without washing hands. I never had any stomach issues at the resort, but seeing that made me queasy.”
