Salmonella reported at Pegasos World Hotel
An all-inclusive visitor to the Pegasos World Hotel in Manavgat, Turkey has claimed that 2 people within their holiday party contracted Salmonella after staying at the 4-star resort.
The TripAdvisor reviewer, posting under the username Aurinko76, said:
“Problems were with the food, we had the all inclusive and only ate at the hotel; 2 out of 4 from my family got salmonella…I am not able to recommend this hotel at all, sorry to say.”
Tour operators including TUI sell all-inclusive package holidays at the Pegasos World Hotel, which maintains 4 restaurants to provide meals for guests from around the world. One reviewer took the ill-advised step of re-heating food after it was served at an inappropriate temperature:
“The food was OK -although it was not always hot there were a couple of microwaves – which I often used – but that was fine- at least I had hot food.”
Salmonella normally manifests itself with sickness, diarrhoea and gastric pain. It can also cause fever, shivering and headaches. Most infections resolve relatively quickly, but complications can occur if it spreads from the intestine. Young children and the elderly are especially vulnerable to a more serious prognosis. Humans most commonly become infected with the bacteria through contaminated water or food. The infection is usually spread as a result of inadequate cooking and/or cross contamination with infected foods and utensils.
When you book an all-inclusive package holiday, under UK regulations the Tour Operator has a responsibility for the performance of all the elements that form part of that package. If it can be shown that on the balance of probability the food provided at your hotel caused you to be ill, then your party could recover compensation for the pain and suffering caused, as well as any other expenses arising from the illness.
