Sickness Strikes at the Royalton Bavaro Resort & Spa
Over the course of the past few weeks, British holidaymakers have taken to online social platforms to warn others following episodes of holiday illness a the Royalton Bavaro Resort and Spa in the Dominican Republic.
“Not in a fit state to walk to the hospital”
A gentleman who travelled to the Royalton Bavaro Resort with his wife in June commented on TripAdvisor: “On arrival to the new room my wife started to feel extremely unwell and began violently vomiting which was followed with diarrhoea this lasted for twenty-four hours followed by a further three days of feeling very unwell weak and unable to eat properly.
“Two days after my wife commenced with the vomiting and diarrhoea, I started and was very unwell for four days in total we lost six days of our holiday we have never felt so sick in all our life’s it was awful.
“On reporting it to our holiday rep we were advised that if we wanted to see the doctor it would cost a minimum of $220 and to bring cash and a credit card with us! OK, we could have claimed back from our travel insurance but that was a ridiculous amount of money and we were not in any fit state to walk to the medical centre to see a doctor to be told to rest and only drink small amounts of water”
“The cleaning they do does not work!”
Another gentleman, Daniel B, who also travelled with 6 others to the resort claims “6 people in our group were very sick” and alleges that “the staff used their language barrier to their advantage”.
Commenting on TripAdvisor, Daniel added: “We had 7 people/ rooms have to change rooms because of a horrible sewage smell. Three people had unbearable pesticide/chemical smell. This was in 4 different buildings. They were all told we will send someone up to clean it. A couple hours later. everyone of them had to relocate rooms. The cleaning they do, does not work. This is a very common problem there I have since read on other websites.”
Meanwhile on the public health forum iwaspoisoned.com , one user claims to have fallen ill over a week into a holiday at the Royalton Bavaro with “severe abdominal cramps and diarrhoea”:
“Upon my return home I am no better and have lost 5lb. I have been to my GP who has requested samples and blood tests. I await the results.”
