Tenerife Tourist Awarded £1,500 Compensation after Suffering Bed Bug Bites and Lyme Disease

Mr. Went reported sustaining personal injuries due to bed bug exposure during his stay at The Hotel Sol, Tenerife. He checked into the hotel with his wife on February 14, 2023, and was initially unaware of any issues with their room. However, Mr. Went later discovered a painful rash on his body, which was found to be caused by bed bug bites.

The situation escalated when, in the early hours of February 17th, Mr. Went’s wife discovered multiple crawling insects within the bed and on Mr. Went himself. Although he was moved to a different room after the incident, the bites had already spread, causing him extreme discomfort.

He found it difficult to wear clothes and was self-conscious about his appearance for at least two weeks. Upon returning home, Mr. Went continued to face difficulties as he had to undergo a course of antibiotics due to concerns of infection from the bites. Furthermore, he tested positive for Lyme disease, resulting in a month-long treatment that left him unwell and nervous about his next holiday on April 3, 2023.

Finally declared free of Lyme disease on May 10, 2023, Mr. Went’s harrowing experience serves as a cautionary tale, shedding light on the potential consequences of hotel-related bed bug exposure.
